Diagnosis of Onychomycosis and the Role of Antifungal Resistance in Treatment

Warren Joseph, DPM, FIDSA

In this Webinar, Warren S Joseph, DPM, FIDSA, will explore the latest data on the rise of antifungal resistance in dermatophytes, particularly against terbinafine. Diagnostic testing will also be discussed including advances in molecular techniques, such as PCR, and how, when combined with microscopy can give the best results in confirming the diagnosis of onychomycosis. Finally, appropriate antifungal stewardship ideas will be presented in an attempt to reduce further development of resistant fungi and recommend treatment courses based on the best available medical evidence.

CME (Credits: 1.00)

Method of Participation

Complete the 4 steps to earn your CE/CME credit:

  1. Complete the Pre-Test
  2. View the Lecture
  3. Complete the Quiz (Min. 70% Passing Score)
  4. Complete the program Survey
Goals and Objectives
  1. Discuss the role of molecular testing in the diagnosis of onychomycosis.
  2. Recognize that increasing rates of resistance to antifungal drugs, such as terbinafine, may begin to limit their clinical usefulness.
  3. Understand the microbiology of antifungal resistance and how it may be minimized with appropriate therapy.
